KUWAIT CITY, Aug 9: An Asian expatriate’s brief stop at a grocery store turned into a costly ordeal after an unknown thief seized the opportunity to steal his vehicle, which had been left running outside the shop in Ahmadi Governorate.
According to the expatriate’s complaint filed at a police station, he parked his vehicle in front of the grocery store and stepped inside to make a quick purchase. He said he was inside for barely a minute, but when he returned, his vehicle had disappeared. The car reportedly contained a mobile phone and several official documents, including his driving license and vehicle registration.
Police took the necessary legal measures and circulated the vehicle’s description to security patrols across the governorate in an effort to locate it and identify the suspect. The investigating officer also issued the expatriate a traffic violation for leaving the vehicle’s engine running.
A security source warned motorists against leaving vehicles unattended, even for a few moments, stressing that thieves can take advantage of such opportunities within seconds. Drivers were urged to switch off the engine, lock the doors and take the keys with them whenever leaving their vehicles.
