TEHRAN, Jun 28: Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC)-affiliated Fars News Agency said on Sunday that a commentary suggesting Iran had “no choice” but to obtain a nuclear weapon did not reflect the agency’s official stance.

Fars said the article was published in its user-generated content section, “Fars Interactive,” and represented the views of the contributor rather than the position of the news agency.

The clarification came after the commentary sparked attention for arguing that Iran should pursue nuclear weapons capability as a means of deterrence against military threats.

Fars emphasized that the views expressed in the piece were not an official policy statement by the agency or its editorial team.
