Arterial & vascular unit at Sabah Al-Ahmad Heart Center offers cutting-edge services

KUWAIT CITY, April 14, (Agencies): Dr. Yahya Al-Ansari, a senior specialist in cardiology and cardiovascular catheterization at the Sabah Al-Ahmad Heart Center and the Amiri Hospital, provided insights into the services offered by the new arterial and vascular unit at the center since its inauguration last June, reports Al-Jarida daily. He noted that the unit has catered to approximately 250 patients to date, offering services both in outpatient clinics and through medical consultations.

Dr. Al-Ansari highlighted the significant role of the arterial catheterization laboratory at the center in performing peripheral arterial catheterizations and therapeutic catheterizations for drug resistant high blood pressure. Notably, he mentioned that this laboratory stands as the first of its kind in the GCC countries to conduct therapeutic catheterization for drug resistant high blood pressure, utilizing cutting-edge capabilities that are scientifically proven. The Sabah Al-Ahmad Heart Center features specialized clinics for patients dealing with arterial problems, particularly issues concerning the arteries of the feet.

Dr. Al-Ansari emphasized that the center also welcomes referrals from diabetic patients with ischemic wounds, providing treatment by restoring blood flow through arterial opening procedures. In addressing arterial problems, Dr. Al-Ansari underscored the importance of managing contributing factors such as irregular blood pressure, diabetes, high cholesterol, smoking, lack of physical activity, non-compliance with medication, and failure to follow medical advice. He urged patients with arterial issues to adhere strictly to prescribed medications, follow their physician’s guidance, and quit smoking to mitigate risks. Dr. Al-Ansari elaborated on the symptoms of peripheral arterial stenosis, including pain in the foot or leg during walking and foot wounds in diabetic individuals. He emphasized the significance of early detection and proactive management in preventing complications associated with arterial diseases.
