KUWAIT CITY, April 1: The 43rd session of the Arab Interior Ministers’ Council convened on Wednesday via video conferencing with the participation of Arab interior ministers, amid ongoing regional security challenges.
In his opening address, Kuwait’s First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, His Excellency Sheikh Fahd Yusuf Saud Al-Sabah, who presided over the 42nd session, conveyed greetings and support from Kuwait’s leadership and stressed that “Arab security is indivisible.” He strongly condemned what he described as Iranian aggressions against Gulf Cooperation Council states and other Arab countries, including attacks targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure.
Sheikh Fahd called for intensified Arab and international cooperation to prevent militias and terrorist organisations from acquiring hostile drones, warning also against the exploitation of cyberspace for extremist recruitment. He further highlighted the growing threat of narcotics trafficking and its link to financing terrorism and armed groups.
The session also marked Kuwait’s handover of the presidency of the council’s current session to the Lebanese Republic, with His Excellency Ahmed Al-Hajar assuming the role. Saudi Interior Minister His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Saud bin Naif bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, the council’s honorary president, and Arab Interior Ministers’ Council Secretary-General Dr. Mohammed bin Ali Koman also addressed the meeting, stressing the importance of enhanced Arab security cooperation.
At the conclusion of the session, a joint Arab statement was issued strongly condemning what it described as unjustified Iranian aggressions and the deliberate targeting of civilian facilities and infrastructure in Arab countries. The statement reaffirmed solidarity with affected Arab states and their right to self-defence, while also condemning the Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab lands and reiterating support for Lebanon’s sovereignty and stability.
