KUWAIT CITY, Sept 26: Personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department have solved the mystery of at least 20 theft cases following the arrest of an Arab man, reports Al-Anba daily. Police records show only three companies had filed cases about theft of smart phones, while the others had let go in the belief it is the waste of time and effort.

However, a security source said the companies which had preferred not to file cases are being contacted by the security authorities to inform them of the arrest of ‘a suspect’ and that legal proceedings have been initiated against him.

The source pointed out that detectives obtained a video clip that helped them to arrest the suspect within hours although the suspect was wearing a face mask that covered a big part of his face. Police have also seized from the man a pair of small scissors used to snap the wire which connects the phones displayed for sale with the metal detector. According to a security source, 3 cases were filed by companies selling cell phones in Salmiya and Maidan Square. The video clip obtained by the security authorities shows the suspect looking to his right and left before cutting the wire and walking away with the phone. The source added the detectives exerted great efforts to determine the identity of the suspect — an Arab, born in 1986. During interrogation he admitted to committing 20 thefts in Salmiya, Fahaheel, Hawalli, Farwaniya and the Capital.
