KUWAIT CITY, Feb 4: The Court of Appeal upheld the death sentence by hanging for a soldier in the Ministry of Interior who was accused of killing his friend, a young man of unknown nationality (bedoun), and ordered the referral of the civil case to the competent court, reports Al-Rai daily. The incident dates back to January 12, 2022, when investigations indicated that the accused went in civilian clothes to his friend, the victim, in a camp in the Al- Julaia, and there a quarrel occurred between them that led to the crime being committed.

Investigations indicated that the suspect hit the victim on the head three times with a piece of brick and when the victim fell to the ground unconscious, he was strangled to death. Then the suspect reportedly called the victim’s mother claiming two young men had attacked and beat the victim and him inside the camp. During the investigations, it was discovered that the suspect had tampered with the victim’s phone and had accessed his accounts on social media without his permission, adding that he had been friends with the victim for some time.

The Public Prosecution charged the suspect with intentional and premeditated murder. The defense of the victim, lawyer Abdul Mohsen Al- Qattan, appeared before the court and claimed 5001 dinars temporary compensation, and the availability of the elements of the crime of premeditated murder, the availability of the material element of the crime of murder, and the criminal intent.
