WASHINGTON, Sep 6: US Central Command (CENTCOM) has rejected an Iranian claim that its forces struck an unmanned US vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, describing the report as “a total lie,” the Associated Press reported, citing CENTCOM spokesman Capt. Tim Hawkins.
Iranian state media had reported that Iranian forces hit the vessel after it allegedly attempted to enter an area of the Strait that Tehran considers restricted.
The claim came a day after the US military said it had struck three Iranian oil tankers in response to a missile attack targeting US Navy warships, further escalating tensions around the strategic waterway.
