KUWAIT CITY, July 21, (Agencies): Kuwait’s air defense systems are currently intercepting hostile missile and drone attacks amid the ongoing Iranian aggression against the country, the General Staff of the Kuwaiti Army announced Tuesday. The General Staff said any explosion sounds heard by the public are the result of air defense systems intercepting hostile projectiles, urging citizens and residents to follow all security and safety instructions issued by the relevant authorities. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Electricity, Water and Renewable Energy said several power generation and water desalination facilities came under attack Monday for the fourth consecutive day as a result of what it described as Iran’s criminal aggression against Kuwait. The ministry said the attacks sparked fires at several facilities, but emergency teams, in coordination with the Kuwait Fire Force and security authorities, responded immediately and brought the blazes under control. Damage assessments have been completed and repair plans are being prepared, the ministry said, adding that several generation units were temporarily taken offl ine as a precautionary measure to protect equipment and ensure the stability of electricity and water networks. The ministry reaffirmed that updates would continue to be provided through its official channels.

Cabinet condemns attacks, praises conservation efforts

The Cabinet on Tuesday strongly condemned the Iranian missile and drone attacks targeting Kuwait, which struck electricity generation and water desalination plants, oil sector facilities and other vital installations, causing fires and damage to critical infrastructure, civilian facilities and residential buildings. During its weekly meeting chaired by His Highness Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, the Cabinet said the attacks represented a blatant violation of Kuwait’s sovereignty, territorial integrity and security, as well as a serious breach of international law, international humanitarian law, the UN Charter and UN Security Council Resolution 2817 (2026).

The Cabinet held Iran fully responsible, legally and morally, for the continued attacks and their consequences, stressing that the repeated targeting of civilian and vital facilities reflected a systematic, aggressive approach that threatens regional security and undermines efforts toward de-escalation. It affirmed Kuwait’s right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, protect its territory and safeguard vital facilities in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter and international law. The Cabinet also condemned Iranian attacks targeting Bahrain, Qatar and Jordan, reaffirming Kuwait’s solidarity with the three countries and support for measures taken to protect their security and sovereignty. It further rejected threats issued by the Houthi militia against Saudi Arabia and maritime navigation, reiterating that Saudi Arabia’s security is an integral part of Kuwait’s and the GCC’s security.

Defense Minister Sheikh Abdullah Ali Abdullah Al-Salem Al-Sabah briefed the Cabinet on the latest military developments and the readiness of Kuwait’s armed forces, while Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah updated ministers on diplomatic efforts by the Foreign Ministry and Kuwait’s missions abroad. The Cabinet also praised the public response to the national electricity and water conservation campaign “Waffir,” saying cooperation from citizens, residents, government institutions, the private sector and media reflected a strong sense of national responsibility. It urged continued conservation efforts, stressing that rational use of resources should become a permanent national practice to ensure sustainable essential services. The Cabinet was also briefed on HH the Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah’s visit to injured victims receiving treatment at Al-Adan Hospital following the recent attacks on civilian and vital facilities. The Prime Minister, accompanied by Health Minister Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to providing full medical care until their recovery.
