KUWAIT CITY, June 18: The Court of Appeals upheld the verdict of a lower court that sentenced a former undersecretary and three former advisors at the Amiri Diwan to three years in prison with hard labor, fined them KD10,000 each and ordered their removal from office for professional negligence and abuse of official authority in the litigation of the ‘Amiri Plane’ case, reports Al-Seyassah daily. The legal proceedings focused on the alleged dereliction of duty in the supervision and finalization of an agreement to furnish an aircraft for the Amiri Diwan.
According to official court findings, these actions caused a substantial drain on public resources, as financial damages are estimated at $180 million. The Public Prosecution contended that the defendants intentionally concealed vital records and data from Kuwait Airways Corporation regarding a contract with an American firm, thereby causing immense fiscal harm on the national treasury. The Appeals Court affirmed that all legal components of the charges were satisfied. Furthermore, the court suspended the legal action regarding Abdulaziz Ishaq, as he was convicted in absentia.
