KUWAIT CITY, Oct 7 (Agencies): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah sent a congratulatory cable on Tuesday to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, on the Saudi national football team’s victory in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup (Khaleeji 27).

The Amir praised the Saudi team’s outstanding technical performance and strong team spirit, which helped secure the title. He also commended the sportsmanship and fraternal spirit displayed by all participating Gulf teams during the tournament, hosted in Jeddah from Sept. 23 to Oct. 6.

He hailed the championship’s success and praised Saudi Arabia for providing world-class facilities and demonstrating high organizational standards in hosting the regional sporting event.

The Amir wished King Salman continued good health and well-being, and the Kingdom and its people further progress and prosperity under his wise leadership.

His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, also sent a congratulatory cable to King Salman on the Saudi team’s Gulf Cup triumph.

The Crown Prince praised the team’s outstanding performance and Saudi Arabia’s efforts in providing all the facilities and requirements needed to host the championship, which earned widespread praise and admiration.

Kuwait Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah likewise sent a congratulatory cable to King Salman on Saudi Arabia’s victory in the 27th Arabian Gulf Cup.

Saudi Arabia ended a more than two-decade wait for a major trophy by beating the UAE 2-0 in Jeddah in the Gulf Cup final, securing their fourth Gulf Cup title.

The victory at Al-Inma Stadium brought Saudi Arabia’s senior international title tally to nine, including three Asian Cup crowns, two Arab Cup titles, and four Gulf Cups.

The Green Falcons’ last major success came at the 2003 Gulf Cup, held between December 2003 and January 2004, before they finally returned to the winners’ circle in 2026.

Saudi Arabia won the Asian Cup in 1984, 1988, and 1996, and lifted the Arab Cup in 1998 and 2002. It won the Gulf Cup in 1994, 2002, 2003, and 2026.

The latest triumph moved Saudi Arabia level with Iraq on four Gulf Cup titles, leaving them second on the all-time list behind Kuwait, which has won the competition a record 10 times.

Saudi midfielder Humam Al-Humami was named the tournament’s best player and received the Prince Khalid Al-Faisal Award. Goalkeeper Mohammed Al-Owais was named Best Goalkeeper after keeping a clean sheet throughout the tournament, while Firas Al-Buraikan finished as the top scorer with three goals.

Yemen’s Adel Abbas was named the tournament's Best Promising Player.
