Amir congratulates Burgan on historic victory

KUWAIT CITY, June 18 (KUNA): His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah congratulated Burgan Club Chairman Anwar Al-Otaibi on the team’s victory in the 28th Asian Men’s Club Handball Championship, after defeating Saudi Arabia’s Al-Khaleej 34–32 in the final.

His Highness the Amir praised the outstanding sporting achievement and the high technical level displayed by Burgan’s players, commending the efforts of the club’s management, technical staff, and all officials who contributed to securing the continental title.

His Highness the Crown Prince, Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah, also extended his congratulations to Al-Otaibi, praising the club’s remarkable accomplishment and strong performance in the final. He wished the team continued success in future regional and international competitions.

His Highness the Prime Minister, Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, likewise congratulated Burgan SC on their historic achievement, marking their first Asian title in club history.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Tariq Al-Jalahma offered his warm congratulations, describing Burgan’s triumph as a historic milestone for Kuwaiti sport.

Al-Jalahma praised the high technical level of the final, noting that the match reflected true sportsmanship and the strong competitive spirit of Gulf handball. He also highlighted the passionate crowd at the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Complex, saying it demonstrated the sport’s popularity in Kuwait.

He added that Burgan’s victory secured qualification for the IHF Men’s Super Globe 2026 in Egypt and commended the club’s board, Kuwait SC as tournament organizer, and all supporting authorities for their successful efforts in hosting the event.

Burgan SC Chairman Anwar Al-Otaibi said the achievement represents a major milestone for Kuwaiti sport and the result of collective teamwork. He expressed gratitude for the leadership’s support throughout the tournament.

Team manager Abdulaziz Najeeb described the championship as one of the most competitive and technically demanding editions, praising the players’ determination in achieving this historic continental success.
