KUWAIT CITY, Oct 29: Turkish Ambassador to Kuwait Tuğba Sönmez affirmed on Wednesday that relations between Turkey and Kuwait stand as an exceptional model of friendship and cooperation, built on mutual respect, shared values, and longstanding historical ties.

Speaking at a reception hosted by the Turkish Embassy to celebrate the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Turkey, Ambassador Sönmez highlighted the steady growth and strategic depth of bilateral relations between the two countries. The event was attended by Minister of Health Dr. Ahmad Al-Awadhi, senior officials, and heads of diplomatic missions in Kuwait.

Ambassador Sönmez stated that Kuwait-Turkey relations have reached “an exemplary level of regional cooperation and strategic understanding” in recent years, attributing this progress to the “wise leadership and shared vision” of both nations.

She recalled the historic visit of His Highness the Amir of Kuwait, Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, to Turkey in May 2014, describing it as a defining moment that ushered in a new era of fruitful cooperation. This relationship, she noted, was further strengthened by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Kuwait in October 2024, during which both countries signed several agreements in the fields of maritime transport, investment, and energy — all in line with the objectives of Kuwait Vision 2035.

The ambassador expressed deep gratitude for Kuwait’s swift and compassionate humanitarian response to Turkey following the devastating earthquakes that struck earlier this year. She said this heartfelt gesture “will forever remain in the memory of the Turkish people as a true reflection of brotherhood and solidarity.”

Ambassador Sönmez also underscored the alignment of both countries’ positions on major regional and international issues, particularly the Palestinian cause and the Syrian crisis. She noted that ongoing cooperation between Ankara and Kuwait significantly contributes to promoting peace and enhancing regional stability.

Concluding her remarks, the Turkish envoy stressed the importance of urgent and responsible action by the international community and the United Nations, especially the UN Security Council, to safeguard global peace and prevent further destabilization in the Middle East.  (KUNA)
