New head coach of Al Samiya, Ali Ashour.

KUWAIT CITY, Jan 31: Al-Salmiya has appointed Bahraini coach Ali Ashour to lead the team on a contract running until June 2027. He replaces national coach Mohammed Dahilis, whose contract was mutually terminated.

Ashour is the third coach to manage Al-Salmiya this season, following Dahilis and Nasser Al-Shatti, who resigned after the firstround of the Zain Premier League.

Born in 1981, Ashour brings a wealth of coaching experience. He guided Al-Khalidiya to Bahrain’s Premier League in 2015–2016, led Al-Najma to the Bahraini King’s Cup in 2017–2018, and managed Al-Riffa to multiple trophies, including a treble of league, cup, and Super Cup in 2018–2019, league and cup titles in 2020–2021, and league and Super Cup titles in 2021–2022. He also helped Al-Khalidiya secure both the league and Super Cup in 2023–2024.

In addition, Ashour previously coached Kuwait Club to league and Amir Cup victories in 2022–2023.

The move comes as Al-Salmiya seeks to reverse a poor start to the season. The team currently sits sixth in the Zain Premier League, with four wins, five draws, and three losses after 12 rounds, and was eliminated in the preliminary round of the Crown Prince Cup.
