Players celebrate during the First Division match.

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 29: Al-Yarmouk will aim to seize the top spot in the First Division, at least temporarily, when it takes on Al-Shamiya at Abdullah Al-Khalifa Stadium at 5:30 PM today in the ninth round of the league. Today’s action also features Sporty facing Al-Jazeera at Al-Sahel Stadium at the same time.

The round will continue with two additional fixtures: Burgan vs Al-Sahel, and Al-Sulaibikhat vs Khaitan.

Second-placed Al-Yarmouk, with 18 points, enters today’s match with a strong chance to extend its winning run and claim the league lead, particularly if current leader Al-Sahel (20 points) slips up against Burgan tomorrow.

Al-Yarmouk will likely find the task manageable against a struggling Al-Shamiya side, which sits second-to-last in seventh place with only 3 points.

Meanwhile, fourth-placed Al-Jazeera, on 14 points, will look to bounce back after a 3–3 draw with Burgan in the previous round. A win today would allow it to challenge the league leader. It faces bottom-placed Sporty, who has lost all eight of its previous matches, giving Al-Jazeera a favorable opportunity to secure the full three points.
