KUWAIT CITY, Feb 2: Kuwait Club surrendered its Amir Cup champion title, succumbing to Al-Tadamon in a penalty shootout of 4-5 following a 1-1 draw in the quarter-final match. Al-Tadamon, a first-division team, showcased its competitive prowess by eliminating Al-Jahra in the preliminary round, before dethroning the reigning champions.

The upcoming challenge for the “Sons of Farwaniya” against Salmiya in the semi-finals promises to be demanding, yet coach Jamal Al-Qabandi’s players believe in the mantra that “nothing is impossible in football” and see an opportune moment to make history by qualifying for the final.

Salmiya, in a remarkable display of resilience, faced Kazma with only ten players from the fifth minute of the match, following a red card for defender Badr Gamal. Despite the numerical disadvantage, they twice took the lead, and Croatian coach Ante Misha’s team eventually equalized (4-4) in extra time. Goalkeeper Abdul Rahman Al-Fadhli’s stellar performance secured their spot in the semi-finals with a 4-3 victory on penalties.

Coach Misha expressed confidence in his team’s trajectory towards regaining strength to compete with the leading teams in the Kuwait Premier League, such as Al-Arabi and Al-Qadisiya. He emphasized the challenging nature of overcoming a formidable opponent with a numerical disadvantage but highlighted the team’s resilience and determination.

Misha acknowledged the significance of special preparation for the upcoming semi-final against Al-Salmiya, recognizing the formidable challenge posed by the defending champions.Meanwhile, Kazma Club displayed satisfaction with their team’s strong performance, even though they fell short in the penalty shootout. Player Ahmed Al-Arsan noted that the team gave their all in a match that ultimately concluded with a penalty shootout.

In the Al-Tadamon camp, there was jubilation in the dressing room after their victory over Kuwait Club on penalties. Coach Jamal Al-Qabandi emphasized that Al-Tadamon’s ambition extends beyond the semi-finals, and preparations for the clash against Al-Salmiya are set to commence promptly.
