Al-Shamlan honored for historic 19th Asian Games performance

KUWAIT CITY, Oct 21: The Kuwait Fencing Federation recently hosted the Kuwait National Junior Championship, showcasing the prowess of 125 local club players in three weapons: saber, fencing, and epee. Adding to the competition’s international flair, junior athletes from the Uzbekistan national team also participated, making their mark at the Federation’s Daiya-area venue.
The prestigious ceremony witnessed the crowning of the victorious athletes by none other than Abdul Karim Al-Shamlan, President of the Football Association, and Hamad Al-Awadhi, the Secretary.

In a separate gesture of appreciation, Member of Parliament Shuaib Ali Shaaban bestowed honors upon Yousef Al-Shamlan, the Kuwaiti national team’s saber fencing champion. Yousef’s accolade came in recognition of his historic performance in the 19th Asian Games held in Hangzhou, China, where he clinched the bronze medal. Notably, this achievement marked a first in the history of the Asian Games for Kuwait, the Gulf Arab region, and Gulf-Arab fencing.

This distinguished recognition was further celebrated by the Youth Board of Directors, with the presence of key figures from the Kuwaiti Fencing Federation, including its Chairman and Board members. Also present were the Vice President of the Youth Club, the Head of the Fencing System, Muhammad Al-Otaibi, the Treasurer, Fahd Al-Azmi, and the Game Director, Sami Al-Otaibi.

Abdul Karim Al-Shamlan, President of the Fencing Federation, expressed the Federation’s commitment to leveraging all available resources to support Kuwaiti clubs. Their objective is clear: to cultivate a generation of exceptional talent capable of representing Kuwait on the global stage and securing top positions in international competitions.
