KUWAIT CITY, Jan 26: The Municipal Council on Monday approved the allocation of three sites in the Al-Shadadiyah area of Ahmadi Governorate for the construction of residential complexes for expatriate workers, the council announced.
The decision came during an extraordinary session chaired by Municipal Council Chairman Abdullah Al-Mahri. The approval follows a request from the Ministry of Finance to amend a previous allocation decision in line with a Cabinet directive.
Under the new arrangement, the sites will be transferred to the State Property Administration for optimal utilization according to legal provisions and procedures, instead of being sold at public auction to the private sector. The council stressed that construction on the sites must meet the standards for cities and labor camps, including building height regulations.
The council also approved the Ministry of Public Works’ request to expand the Kabd wastewater treatment plant in the Sulaibiya agricultural area.
Additional approvals included requests from the Ministry of Electricity, Water, and Renewable Energy for water service routes to supply the Google Cloud data center in Mutlaa City, a route in the Sulaibiya Industrial Area, and an underground cable route for a station in South Mutlaa.
The council further approved Kuwait National Petroleum Company’s request to amend a previous decision on the location of its petroleum product tanker depot in Subhan, as well as the Public Authority for Roads and Land Transport’s request to expand public parking areas in Sabah Al-Salem.
Finally, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ request to reorganize part of plot number 1 within the Diplomatic Quarter was also approved.
