WASHINGTON, Oct 12, (KUNA): Kuwaiti fencer Tariq Al-Qallaf won the gold medal of the saber competition, his third gold at the international wheelchair fencing championship. He defeated Lew Curtis, of the United State, 15-10 at the final game of the three-day event came to a close in Virginia, US, on Sunday evening.

Al-Qallaf snatched epee gold on Friday and the foil gold after trouncing US fencer Joshua Russell 15-7 on Saturday. He dedicated his great achievement to His Highness the Amir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah as well as the Kuwaiti people.

The new golds took Al-Qallaf’s tally of medals to over 160; he is rated as the world’s top seed by the International Wheelchair and Amputee Sports Federation (IWAS) and the US Fencing Association.
