KUWAIT CITY, July 16: Al-Qadsia has signed goalkeeper Saud Al-Qanai on a one-year contract as the club continues its preparations for the new season.
The 32-year-old goalkeeper previously played for Al-Arabi, Al-Tadamon, Al-Salmiya, Al-Shabab and Al-Yarmouk.
Meanwhile, Al-Arabi will leave today for its overseas training camp in Turkey, which will continue until August 6. The team will then travel to Kolkata, India, to prepare for its AFC Champions League Two playoff match against East Bengal on August 12.
The new Al-Arabi coach is expected to join the squad today or tomorrow after the club ended its agreement with national coach Nasser Al-Shatti.
Al-Arabi currently has three foreign players: Brazilian Lucas Chalon, Nigerian Anayo Iwuala, and Ethiopian Kenan Malik.
The club confirmed it will not renew the contracts of Bahrain international Kamil Al-Aswad and Moroccan defender Nabil Marmouk, while the situation regarding Palestinian player Zaid Qunbar remains unclear.
Al-Arabi previously signed Talal Al-Qaisi from Kazma and Ali Al-Dokhi, who has represented Al-Shabab and Al-Fahaheel, while renewing the contracts of Ali Khalaf, Abdullah Ammar, and Bader Tariq.
Meanwhile, Kazma announced the renewal of contracts for its foreign players, Yemen international Nasser Mohammedou and Sudanese player Amer Abdullah.
The "Orange" had earlier signed Brazilian Patrick Robson, as well as Fahad Al-Hajri and Ahmed Al-Zanki, while also extending the contract of Nasser Lafi as part of its squad-building plans for the upcoming season.
Kazma will compete in the Gulf Champions League next season after finishing fourth in the Zain Premier League.
Elsewhere, Kuwait Club announced that it will not renew the contract of Ivorian midfielder Idrissa Doumbia.
In related news, Bahraini media reports stated that Al-Salmiya has entered negotiations with Bahrain international Abdullah Yusuf to strengthen its squad for the new season.
Al-Salmiya has been coached by Bahrain’s Ali Ashoor since last season, with his contract running until June.
Last season, Al-Salmiya featured foreign players including Tunisian Imed Louati, Brazilian Alex Lima, Syrians Amr Midani and Mahmoud Al-Aswad, Bahraini Sayed Diaa, and Gambian player Sang Pierre.
