Al-Qadsia maintains the top spot in the basketball league

Al-Arabi and Al-Tadamon players vie for the ball.

KUWAIT CITY, Nov 30: Nidal Ben Abdel Karim, the newly appointed coach of Al-Arabi Club’s first basketball team, has arrived in the country to take charge of the squad in the ongoing season. This follows the termination of Serbian coach Degan’s contract due to the team’s subpar performance, currently holding the sixth position in the general league standings. Before Ben Abdel Karim’s arrival, Mohamed Al-Shatti, the technical director of the Green Basket, assumed leadership responsibilities.

Before joining Al-Arabi, the Tunisian coach gained experience coaching the Tunisian senior national team and overseeing Al-Qurain Club from 2019 to 2022.

In recent league action, the Al-Qadsia basketball team secured a decisive victory over Al-Sulaibikhat with a scoreline of 102-77, maintaining their lead in the league standings after the sixth round. Simultaneously, Al-Arabi triumphed over Al-Tadamon with a convincing score of 96-43.

With this win, Al-Qadsia has amassed 14 points, securing the top position, while Sulaibikhat holds the runner-up spot with 11 points. The “Green” team, under the guidance of Ben Abdel Karim, has increased their score to 9 points, while Al-Tadamon lags with 7 points.

The league features a two-part combination system, with the top four teams earning a spot in the semi-finals to contend for the championship.

The opening quarter of the Al-Qadsia saw an even battle, with both teams exchanging scores. However, Al-Qadsia seized control and concluded the quarter with a 27-21 lead. The second quarter witnessed Al-Qadsia extending their advantage, propelled by the standout performances of Americans David (22 points) and Lowry (20 points), resulting in a 53-39 lead. Despite Sulaibikhat’s efforts to mount a comeback in the third quarter, with  Alexander contributing 24 points, Al-Qadsia maintained their lead, finishing the quarter with a 19-point difference at 80-61. Al-Qadsia further solidified their dominance in the last quarter, ultimately securing a 102-77 victory.
