KUWAIT CITY, Sept 5: Al-Qadsia ended Al-Nasr’s winning run and handed the team its first defeat of the season with a 3-0 victory at Mohammed Al-Hamad Stadium in the third round of the Zain Premier League two days ago.
Ayoub Lakhdar opened the scoring for Al-Qadsia in the 15th minute, while Abdulrahman Al-Mushaifri added two more goals in the 26th and 63rd minutes.
The Yellow side achieved several objectives with the victory. It returned to winning ways after losing 1-0 to Kuwait Club in the previous round, temporarily moved to the top of the standings with six points, ended Al-Nasr’s winning streak, and knocked the team off the summit.
Al-Qadsia produced an impressive performance throughout the match and secured a deserved victory. The game also marked the first appearance of Moroccan striker Hamza Khaba, who had missed the opening two rounds through suspension. He impressed on his return and made a strong case for a regular place in the starting lineup.
In another third-round match, Al-Arabi continued to drop points after the team rescued a 3-3 draw against visiting Al-Sulaibikhat at Sabah Al-Salem Stadium.
Al-Sulaibikhat stunned the host with an early goal from Wilfres Santos in the sixth minute. Kenan Malikov equalized in the 13th minute before Al-Arabi took the lead through Bandar Al-Salama in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the first half.
Al-Sulaibikhat drew level through Abdulaziz Al-Bashar in the 56th minute and regained the lead when Lucas Chalon converted a penalty in the seventh minute of stoppage time.
Al-Arabi, however, rescued a point when Abdulwahab Al-Awadhi equalized one minute later.
The result left Al-Arabi ninth with two points, level with Al-Sulaibikhat in 10th.
The third round concludes today with two matches. Al-Salmiya hosts Al-Sahel at Thamer Stadium at 6:35 p.m., while Kazma visits Al-Shabab at 8:50 p.m.
Al-Salmiya has three points and will be looking for a second victory, but the task will not be easy against Al-Sahel, who has four points after beating Al-Sulaibikhat 1-0 in the opening round and drawing 0-0 with Kazma in the second.
In the other match, Kazma, also on four points, will seek to return to winning ways and remain among the leaders, while Al-Shabab, who has the same tally, will be targeting a similar result.
The league will then go on a break until early October due to Kuwait’s participation in the 27th Gulf Cup, which begins in Saudi Arabia on Sept. 23.
