KUWAIT CITY, March 30: Al-Qadisiya soared to the summit of the Zain Premier League (Championship Group) following a resounding 5-2 victory over Al-Fahaheel on the preceding Friday. With this triumph, the “Yellow” team amassed 45 points, edging past Al-Arabi with a superior goal difference. Al-Arabi, in contrast, contested Al-Salmiya late yesterday, maintaining their previous score of 24 points.

Badr Al-Mutawa netted twice alongside Eid Al-Rashidi, who also found the net twice, and Muhammad Sawla from a penalty kick, sealing the win for Al-Qadisiya. Meanwhile, William Barros and Fawaz Al-Rashidi scored for Al-Fahaheel.

In a related development, the third round of the tournament faces postponement due to the National Assembly elections. The round is rescheduled for early next week after initially slated for March 3rd and 4th.

The inaugural round of Zain League’s relegation group commences tonight, featuring Al-Jahra against Kazma at Nasser Al-Osaimi Stadium, while Khaitan visits Al-Shabab. Both matches kick off at nine-thirty in the evening.

In the opener, Al-Jahra, with 8 points, strives for victory to bolster its chances of remaining in the Premier League next season. Any other outcome would significantly dent its competitive prospects, given the points gap with its three contenders: Kazma leads with 20 points, followed by Al-Shabab (14 points), and Khaitan with 12 points. Relegation group matches are conducted in a home-and-away league format.

On the other hand, Kazma aims to secure survival early, needing 6 points to achieve this objective. The Orange team previously triumphed over Al-Jahra in all three encounters this season, with 2-0 and 2-1 in the league, and 2-0 in the Crown Prince Cup.

In the second clash, parity reigns between the adversaries, setting the stage for a grueling encounter. A win for Al-Shabab augments its survival chances and widens the gap from its rival, while Khaitan seeks victory to claim third place from “the sons of Al-Ahmadi.” The teams previously traded wins in the league, with Al-Shabab winning the first leg 4-1, and Khaitan securing a 2-1 victory in the second leg.
