KUWAIT CITY, April 4: In a highly anticipated basketball “derby” held two days ago on Wednesday, Al-Qadisiya secured a resounding victory over Al-Arabi with a final score of 90-72. This match, part of the second round of the second division of the golden square in the league competition, showcased Al-Qadisiya’s dominance on the court.

With this win, Al-Qadisiya bolstered its score to 9 points, while Al-Arabi’s tally increased to 5 points. The semi-final stage will follow a two-part league system, with the first semi-final pitting the top team against the fourth, and the second pairing the second against the third, utilizing a “play-off” format consisting of three matches, where the victor of two will advance to the final.

The game began with both teams displaying a level of parity in the first quarter, with Al-Qadisiya managing to edge ahead by a single point, ending the quarter 17-16 in their favor. As the match progressed, Al-Qadisiya asserted its control, widening the gap to 13 points by the end of the second quarter, leading 49-36.

Maintaining their momentum, Al-Qadisiya continued to dominate in the third quarter, capitalizing on stellar performances from key players such as American athlete Tiran, who contributed 31 points to the match. As the third quarter concluded, Al-Qadisiya held a commanding lead of 70-57. The team’s superiority was evident throughout the game, culminating in a decisive victory of 90-72.

The second round of matches will conclude today, Friday, with Kuwait Club facing off against Kazma at 9:00 pm at the Al-Ittihad Hall in the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex. Kuwait Club enters the match with 8 points from 4 victories, while Kazma aims to bounce back from previous defeats, holding 5 points from 3 losses and a single victory. With experienced German coach Peter Schumers leading the charge, Al-Qadisiya appears poised to continue their winning streak, while Kazma seeks redemption and a positive outcome in today’s match.
