KUWAIT CITY, Nov 20: Burgan Club has reached a near-final agreement with national coach Yaqoub Al-Moussawi to take charge of the first handball team for the remainder of the current season. The club president met with Al-Moussawi yesterday to finalize the remaining details ahead of the official signing.
Al-Moussawi resigned from his post at Salmiya’s handball team on October 19, stepping in to replace Burgan’s former coach Hussein Habeeb, who had resigned on the 10th of the same month.
Al-Moussawi brings a strong résumé, having served as Salmiya’s assistant coach for four years before leading the team as head coach for two seasons. During his tenure, he guided Salmiya to a runner-up finish in the penultimate edition of the Arab Club Championship, where it lost the final to Kuwait Club.
Burgan is currently competing in the preparatory tournament and earned a 30–22 victory over Arabi last Tuesday in Week 5, which also featured Qurain’s 44–34 win over Naser.
Yarmouk leads the competition standings with nine points, followed by Burgan with eight, Fahaheel with six, Qurain and Salmiya with five each, Sulaibikhat with four, Arabi with three, and Naser still without a point.
