Al-Mousawi wins karate bronze for Kuwait

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 21: Kuwait added another medal to its tally at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games after Sayed Mohammed Al-Mousawi won bronze in the individual kata event.

The medal takes Kuwait’s total to three at the Games, following Abdullah Shaaban’s gold in the men’s under-60kg kumite and the bronze secured by Basel Ahmed and Abdulwahab Al-Qattan in teqball doubles.

Al-Mousawi expressed pride in winning the bronze, calling it a valuable career achievement after a series of tough preliminary contests, including a bout against Japanese world No. 1 Kakeru Nishiyama.

He said the medal was a positive start for Kuwait in the kata events, with the focus now shifting to the team kata competition on September 23.

Kuwait’s shooters also began their skeet qualifying campaign. Abdullah Al-Rashidi hit 48 of 50 targets, Mohammed Al-Daihani 47, and Mohammed Al-Awad 45 in the men’s event. Among the women, Fatima Al-Zaabi hit 46 targets, Eman Al-Shammaa 43, and Afrah Al-Mohammad 39.

In swimming, Khaled Al-Otaibi set a new Kuwaiti record in the 200m individual medley, clocking 2:07.14.

In karate, Esrar Al-Jassem will compete in the women’s under-55kg kumite round of 16 at 6:40 am, followed by Omar Al-Janai in the men’s under-75kg kumite round of 16 at 8:25 am.
