KUWAIT CITY, Oct 20: Salmiya’s head coach, Yaqoub Al-Mousawi, officially resigned from his position, marking the second coaching departure in the 2025-26 Kuwaiti Handball Premier League.

Al-Mousawi follows Burgan coach Hussein Habib, who resigned earlier after the league’s pause.

Announcing his decision on X (formerly Twitter), Al-Mousawi said: "I have formally submitted my resignation to the Salmiya Club board. I hope I have fulfilled my responsibilities—as a player, then assistant coach for four years, and finally as head coach for two seasons."

He added: "I thank Sheikh Turki Al-Yousef, the club president, for his trust and the opportunity he gave me, as well as my colleagues in the administrative staff and the players. I apologize for any shortcomings and wish the team success in the future."

Reports indicate that Al-Mousawi has received coaching offers locally and abroad and is currently considering his options.

Meanwhile, the Kuwait national handball team has departed for Tunisia for a training camp ahead of the Islamic Solidarity Games in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, from 7 to 21 November. Following this, Kuwait will host the 22nd Asian Men’s Handball Championship, which serves as the qualifier for the 2027 World Cup in Germany, from 15 to 26 January.

Led by Icelandic coach Aron Kristjansson, the national team began local preparations earlier. During the Tunisia camp, Kuwait will participate in a friendly tournament with Tunisia, Iran, and Guinea, before returning home and heading to Saudi Arabia on 11 November.
