KUWAIT CITY, July 5: Burgan Club has appointed coach Yaqoub Al-Mousawi as head coach of its senior handball team for the 2026-27 season, marking a move aimed at maintaining the club's momentum following its recent achievements and preparing for a demanding campaign at both the domestic and international levels.
Al-Mousawi returns to the role after previously leading Burgan during the last season before the campaign was cut short due to the regional situation. He now takes charge as the Asian champions prepare for a series of major competitions, headlined by the IHF Men's Club World Championship, which will be staged in Cairo from September 25 to October 1.
Burgan's management said the appointment reflects its commitment to preserving technical continuity and building on the project that has elevated the club among Asia's elite handball teams, following its historic victory in the Asian Club Championship, held in Kuwait last month.
The club expressed complete confidence in Al-Mousawi's ability to lead the team through the next phase, emphasizing the importance of teamwork and continuity to sustain its recent success and pursue further honors.
Al-Mousawi said the squad will begin preparations for the Club World Championship later this month before departing for an overseas training camp in early September, with the destination yet to be finalized.
He added that he is currently working with the club's handball department to finalize the technical and physical preparation program for the new season, while evaluating the team's requirements in both local and overseas talent to assemble a squad capable of challenging for every title.
The coach also confirmed that Burgan is studying the profiles of several foreign players and will carefully select the most suitable reinforcements to strengthen the squad for the Club World Championship and the 2026-27 season.
