KUWAIT CITY, Nov 22: Burgan Club’s handball team takes on Al-Sulaibikhat today at 5:00 PM in the sixth week of the preparatory tournament at Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Sports Complex, while Salmiya will face Al-Qurain at 7:00 PM.
Yarmouk leads the standings with nine points, followed by Burgan with eight, Al-Fahaheel with six, and both Al-Qurain and Salmiya on five points. Al-Sulaibikhat has four points, Al-Arabi has three, and Al-Nasr has yet to earn a point.
Today’s match marks the official debut of Burgan’s new national coach, Yacoub Al-Mousawi, who joined the club two days ago to lead the team for the remainder of the 2025–2026 season, including the upcoming Asian Clubs Championship, which has not yet been scheduled.
Al-Mousawi brings extensive experience, having served as assistant coach at Salmiya for four years before leading the team as head coach for two seasons. Under his guidance, Salmiya finished as runner-up in the Arab Clubs Championship in the penultimate edition, losing the final to Kuwait. Burqan is now the second local club he has taken charge of.
Expressing gratitude to Burgan’s management, Al-Mousawi said he is well-acquainted with the team and each player, having faced Burgan several times while coaching Salmiya. He stressed that he will work closely with the technical and administrative staff to maintain the team’s high performance levels.
Al-Mousawi also revealed that the club is seeking a third foreign player to strengthen the squad, following the recent departure of Serbian player Jovica.
