SANYA, China, April 27: Kuwait Olympic Committee Assistant Secretary-General Ali Al-Mari praised the strong performances of Kuwait’s athletes at the 6th Asian Beach Games currently taking place in China, highlighting their determination despite challenging and exceptional circumstances in the region.
Al-Mari noted that the Kuwaiti delegation features 13 male and female athletes competing across five sports: jiu-jitsu, teqball, aquathlon, climbing, and sailing. He stressed that the team participated without full training camps or structured preparation programs due to recent regional conditions.
“Despite the lack of ideal preparation, our athletes have shown great effort and achieved notable personal bests, proudly representing Kuwait at this major continental event,” he said, adding that this provides strong optimism for future competitions.
He also praised the high level of organization in China, describing the event as comparable to a full-scale Asian Games rather than a beach edition, with more than 1,600 athletes participating. He thanked the organizers and the Olympic Council of Asia for their professional efforts in ensuring the success of the event.
Al-Mari further revealed that the Kuwait Olympic Committee is exploring the possibility of hosting similar international sporting events in the future, based on recommendations from Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. Tareq Al-Jalahmah and Olympic Committee President Sheikh Fahad Al-Nasser Al-Sabah. He emphasized that Kuwait’s sporting workforce has repeatedly proven its ability to successfully organize major events at both logistical and technical levels.
In related action, national climbing athlete Nasser Abu Arjeeb will begin his competition at 6:30 a.m., aiming for a strong showing in the speed and difficulty disciplines. Abu Arjeeb, who had the honor of carrying Kuwait’s flag during the Games’ opening ceremony, said the event marks an important milestone in his career and vowed to deliver his best performance in Sanya.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s sailing team will wrap up its participation in the Optimist and ILCA4 events as races begin at 6:00 a.m., with final standings determined by total points accumulated across all races since the start of the competition.
