KUWAIT CITY, Nov 19: The 2023-2024 volleyball league kicks off, featuring the enthusiastic participation of 10 clubs: Al-Kuwait, Al-Qadsia, Al-Arabi, Kazma, Al-Tadamon, Al-Sahel, Al-Shabab, Sulaibkhat, Yarmouk, and Burgan. Notably, Al-Jahra, having withdrawn from the current season, will be absent.

In adherence to the new league system, the 10 teams will engage in a two-part round, both “home and away.” The top four teams will advance to the “golden square,” a two-stage event where points will be allocated similar to international tournaments. A 3-0 or 3-1 victory will earn the winning team three points, while the losing team receives none. In the case of a 3-2 score, the victor secures two points, and the loser is awarded one point.

With an illustrious history, Al-Qadsia has claimed the championship title 23 times, followed by Kazma with 15 victories and Kuwait with 14 titles. Al-Arabi secured the title four times, and Al-Jahra emerged victorious once.

The volleyball league matches are scheduled at Al-Ittihad Hall in the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah Indoor Hall Complex, featuring three opening matches. Al-Sahel Club will face Al-Qadsia, Al-Tadamon will compete against Al-Arabi, and Al-Kuwait Club will take on Kazma.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Volleyball Federation, Dr. Jaber Al-Marri, anticipates robust competition among all clubs. He expresses his hope for players and teams to showcase their talents, reflecting the high standard of Kuwaiti volleyball. Al-Marri emphasizes the importance of providing opportunities for young talents to demonstrate their skills and contribute to the teams’ preparation for the tournament.

The sports season commenced with the Al-Ittihad Refresher Championship, followed by the Super Cup, with Al-Kuwait emerging victorious in both championships.
