KUWAIT CITY, July 4: Al Jahra Club is exploring the possibility of bringing its senior handball team back to domestic competition, with club president Yousef Karim confirming that the initiative is among the board's top priorities.
Karim said the club is conducting a comprehensive assessment covering the technical, administrative, and financial requirements needed to ensure a successful return.
"Handball has always been an important sport at Al Jahra," he said. "Its return would benefit not only the club but also Kuwaiti handball, especially with the game's remarkable development in recent years and the growing competitiveness of the domestic league."
He acknowledged that rejoining the league will be a significant challenge, given the higher standard of competition, and stressed that careful planning will be essential.
"Our goal is to build a team capable of competing from the outset," Karim said. "That means recruiting quality players, investing in young talent, and combining them with experienced players to create a balanced and competitive squad."
Karim emphasized that the board will not rush its decision until all aspects of the project have been thoroughly evaluated. He said the club's objective is to establish a sustainable team that can compete consistently, rather than simply participate in the league.
He added that the project will be guided by a clear long-term strategy aimed at restoring Al Jahra's handball team to a level that reflects the club's proud tradition in the sport.
Concluding his remarks, Karim said the board is committed to providing the resources and environment needed for the project to succeed in cooperation with the club's technical and administrative staff. He expressed optimism that tangible steps will soon be taken to return Al Jahra's senior handball team to the Premier League, strengthening competition and enriching Kuwait's domestic handball championships.
