KUWAIT CITY, Nov 16: Al-Fatat Club (B) team were crowned champions of the women’s open championship for ‘Triples’ basketball (3X3) after defeating Girls (A) 17-15 in the final match yesterday evening at the Union Hall of the Sheikh Saad Al-Abdullah halls complex. Al-Qurain Club team (C) won the third place after beating Al-Qurain (D) with a score of 9-7.

The final match was attended by a member of the National Assembly, Ahmad Al-Fadhel, and a member of the Municipal Council Maha Al-Baghli, President of the Basketball Federation Rashid Al- Enezi, and Chairperson of the Women Committee in the Kuwaiti Olympic Committee Fatima Hayat, and a number of women chairpersons and members of the boards of directors of women’s clubs. Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Basketball Association Rashid Al-Enezi thanked the Chairman and members of the Women’s Committee for the great role they played for the success of the first women’s championship in the 2020-2021 sports season.

The chairperson of Al-Fatat Club, Fadela Al-Shuwailan, expressed her happiness at the first women’s championship in the sports season, and said: “Today basketball is witnessing a good start, and we hope to continue and develop it in the coming seasons. We thank the women’s committee and the Basketball Federation for organizing the tourney.” The first women’s league is expected to start in February, and the Kuwaiti national basketball team will participate in an international tournament in China next April.

Arab Club player Shaima Saeed expressed her overwhelming happiness at the first women’s tournament, and said: “The atmosphere was perfect in all respects, and the distinguished organization that the tournament witnessed is worth all praise.”
