KUWAIT CITY, June 27: In a move that could reshape the future of handball at Qadsia Club, businessman Fahad Abdulrahman Al-Baker is expected to present a formal proposal to the club's board of directors at its meeting on Sunday to transform the handball department into an independent commercial entity under his leadership.
The proposal seeks to establish a new administrative and financial framework designed to ensure the long-term sustainability of the sport through professional management, investment opportunities, and diversified revenue streams. The initiative would also reduce the financial burden on the club while safeguarding one of its most successful team sports.
The proposal comes at a pivotal moment after the club's board moved to disband the senior handball team, a decision that has raised concerns among Qadsia supporters and the wider handball community because of the club's rich history and achievements at both the domestic and international levels.
The board is expected to review the proposal during Sunday's meeting, with the Kuwaiti sports community closely watching the outcome. If approved, the initiative could not only determine the future of handball at Qadsia but also serve as a blueprint for similar commercial models at other Kuwaiti sports clubs.
