KOLKATA, Aug 6: Al-Arabi will leave today for Kolkata, India, as the club steps up preparations for its decisive clash against East Bengal on August 12 in the playoff round for a place in the group stage of the AFC Champions League Two.
The Green Devils wrapped up their training camp in Erzurum, Turkey, after playing four friendly matches as part of their preparations. They suffered defeats against Egyptian side Pyramids FC (3-1) and Erzurumspor (3-1), drew 1-1 with Van Spor, and ended the camp on a positive note with a 4-0 win over Amedspor’s reserve team.
Al-Arabi will begin training in India tomorrow under Croatian coach Goran Tomic, with the squad focused on reaching peak readiness ahead of the Asian playoff.
Al-Salmiya has confirmed its fourth and final friendly match during their training camp in Izmit, Turkey, against Bahrain’s Al-Khaldiya next Thursday.
The Sky Blues began their series of warm-up games with a 3-0 loss to Egyptian club ZED FC, before facing Qatar’s Al-Markhiya yesterday. They are scheduled to meet Algerian side Olympique Chlef next Monday in their third preparatory fixture.
The team will conclude its camp and return to Kuwait on August 17.
Kuwait Club resumed training yesterday in London under Portuguese head coach Alexander Santos as part of its preparations for the new season.
The defending league champion was beaten 2-0 by English club Portsmouth in its second friendly match, which marked the debut of new Brazilian forward Carlinhos Vinicius.
Kuwait Club previously lost 1-0 to Milton Keynes and will play its third friendly against Barnet next Sunday.
Kuwait Club is preparing for the defense of its Premier League title, which kicks off on August 25, as well as the upcoming campaign in the AFC Champions League Two.
Al-Qadsia is looking to arrange a third friendly match during its ongoing camp in Turkey before returning home at the end of next week.
The Yellow Castle secured a 3-1 victory over Saudi side Al-Orouba in their latest friendly after opening the camp with a 1-1 draw against Al-Zulfi.
The team is using the camp to prepare for the domestic league season and its upcoming participation in the AFC Challenge League.
