KUWAIT CITY, Nov 2: Kuwait Winter Sports Club President Fahid Al-Ajmi said the club is taking steps to introduce athletes with disabilities to winter sports and enable them to represent Kuwait in international competitions for athletes with disabilities.
Al-Ajmi said the initiative will start with the formation of a Kuwaiti ice hockey team, providing young people from this group with an opportunity to participate. The club also plans to extend its involvement to other winter disciplines under its supervision, including figure skating, curling, and speed skating.
He said the club has begun intensive consultations with several schools that have students with disabilities to identify those interested in the sport and train them in its basic skills and techniques. He called on interested individuals to contact the club's administration to join the initiative.
The club aims initially to prepare 20 ice hockey players for the ninth Asian Winter Games, which will be held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, in the winter of 2029. The players are also expected to take part in subsequent international competitions.
