TEHRAN (AP), Apr 6: An airstrike early Monday struck a residential building in a city southwest of Iran’s capital, Tehran, killing at least 13 people, according to Iranian media reports.
Semiofficial outlets, including Fars News Agency and Nour News, said the strike occurred near Eslamshahr. The exact target and purpose of the attack remain unclear.
No country has officially claimed responsibility for the strike. However, the incident comes amid heightened regional tensions following remarks by Donald Trump, who recently issued a strongly worded warning urging Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz.
The strike added to growing concerns over a potential escalation in the region, as uncertainty continues over the source and intent of the attack.
Earlier, a series of airstrikes struck Iran’s capital, Tehran, before dawn on Monday, with explosions echoing across the city. The exact targets of the strikes were not immediately clear.
Residents reported hearing low-flying fighter jets intermittently for several hours, underscoring the intensity of the overnight assault.
The escalation appeared to ripple across the region. In Israel, authorities issued at least one missile alert. In Dubai, part of the United Arab Emirates, two alerts were triggered, with air defense systems activated. It remains unclear what specific threats were intercepted or targeted.
Meanwhile, Kuwait confirmed that its air defense systems were activated multiple times overnight to intercept incoming threats, though no further details were immediately provided.
The developments highlight a widening regional impact as tensions continue to escalate, with multiple countries on high alert following the latest wave of strikes.
