TEHRAN (AP), Apr 4: An airstrike targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure damaged a support building at the Bushehr Nuclear Power Plant, killing a security guard, according to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran.
The International Atomic Energy Agency said no increase in radiation levels was detected following the strike, indicating that the plant’s reactor systems were not affected.
The Bushehr facility, which operates using low-enriched uranium supplied by Russia and supported by Russian technicians, generates about 1,000 megawatts of electricity—enough to power hundreds of thousands of homes. However, it accounts for only a small portion of Iran’s overall energy supply.
Iran has been working to expand the site, with plans to add two additional reactors, each capable of producing another 1,000 megawatts, as part of efforts to boost nuclear energy capacity.
