Airlines violating rules fined

KUWAIT CITY, April 6: The Complaints and Arbitration Committee at the General Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) discussed the violations committed by airlines operating at the Kuwait International Airport in terms of non-compliance with health requirements. During the meeting the committee is said to have listed 160 violations and approved the fines slapped against these airlines.

The Director of the Air Transport Department, Chairman of the Complaints and Arbitration Committee, Abdullah Al- Rajhi, also looked into the passengers’ complaints and violations committed by travel and tourism offices and airlines in the presence of all members of the committee — representatives of several government agencies.

During the meeting, the committee reviewed all the violations of airlines operating at Kuwait International Airport and examined the complaints referred to it and sought opinions on the complaints, during which it also discussed 14 complaints regarding violations of laws and circulars issued by the DGCA related to the air transport market, and the committee issued decisions to fine these companies and initiated legal measures against them.

The head of the committee stressed the need for the implementation of all laws and circulars issued by the DGCA to regulate the work of the air transport market in Kuwait, stressing that this matter should not be tolerated and the rights of the state and travelers should be preserved. A reliable source told the Al-Qabas daily that the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has told the Civil Service Commission (CSC) not to approve requests sent by DGCA departments for appointment for now.

The source said that the DGCA has stopped all letters issued regarding a request for work in civil aviation saying no requests will be approved as of Monday. The source attributed the reason for stopping the appointment due to ‘over employment’ during the previous phase and high salaries of administrators compared to other government agencies, as well as the possibility of them obtaining a shift allowance of up to 220 dinars.
