Airfares from Manila double; Filipino workers headed for Kuwait

KUWAIT CITY, May 12: Head of the Union of Domestic Labor Offices, Khaled Al-Dakhnan, has revealed an upcoming visit by the Philippine Minister of Labor to Kuwait, with expectations that Filipino workers will begin arriving as early as next week. Al-Dakhnan explained that domestic workers from the Philippines must complete specific procedures and receive official instructions before traveling to Kuwait.

The workers must also visit the Philippine Ministry of Labor to be briefed on requirements and sign a pledge to comply with travel regulations before departure. Meanwhile, he stressed that some Gulf embassies previously required Sri Lankan domestic workers to receive certain vaccinations before travel, but several Gulf countries were later exempted from these requirements, allowing the continued recruitment of Sri Lankan workers, including to Kuwait. Al-Dakhnan said airfare from the Philippines has doubled, while ticket prices from Sri Lanka have seen a slight increase. He indicated that the arrival of Sri Lankan workers to Kuwait has already been ongoing for over a month.
