CHENNAI, May 3: A passenger was arrested at Chennai International Airport after opening an emergency exit door on a taxiing aircraft, prompting a swift security response.
According to reports, the incident occurred on a flight operated by Air Arabia arriving from Sharjah to Chennai. The aircraft, carrying 231 passengers, was moving along the taxiway when a 34-year-old man allegedly opened one of the emergency exit doors.
The pilot immediately halted the aircraft and alerted airport authorities, later filing a formal complaint over the breach. Security personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force quickly responded, boarding the plane along with specialized units, including bomb disposal teams and armed officers.
The passenger, identified as a resident of Pudukkottai, was taken into custody at the scene. Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident and are currently questioning him, including assessing his mental health.
Officials have not reported any injuries, but the incident was disrupted as safety protocols were activated. Aviation authorities are expected to review the case and determine further action.
