RIYADH, Mar 9: A stir was caused at a technology festival in Saudi Arabia when a supposedly "fully autonomous" AI robot named Mohammad appeared to make inappropriate gestures towards journalist Rawya Kassem during an interview. In a video circulating on social media, Kassem can be seen speaking in front of the robot when it appears to move towards her in a way that suggests it was attempting to touch her behind. Startled by the robot's actions, Kassem quickly moved away and signaled for it to stop before continuing with her presentation at DeepFest, an AI event held in Riyadh.

The robotics firm QSS, responsible for developing Mohammad, defended the robot's behavior, stating that it operates independently without direct human control. After reviewing the footage and circumstances surrounding the incident, QSS asserted that Mohammad's actions were within the expected parameters. However, the company acknowledged the need for additional measures to prevent individuals from approaching the robot during its movements.

Despite the controversy, QSS emphasized that Mohammad was designed to assist in hazardous conditions and improve safety for humans. Some speculate that the robot's actions were simply a misinterpretation, suggesting it may have been prompting Kassem to step forward. Nevertheless, QSS stressed the importance of maintaining a safe distance from the robot during its demonstrations, underscoring its commitment to safety and well-being.
