KUWAIT CITY, Feb 11: Traffic police launched a wide-ranging campaign across all governorates, including areas surrounding hospitals, targeting vehicles parked in prohibited zones and those obstructing traffic or hindering emergency medical services. A total of 119 violations were recorded at Al-Amiri Hospital alone.
Statistics showed Al-Ahmadi Governorate topped the list with 570 violations, followed by Al-Farwaniyah (536), the Capital (451), and Al-Jahra (358). Violations included mobile phone use while driving, failure to wear seatbelts, illegal window tinting, causing noise disturbances, and offenses committed by trucks and taxis. Authorities impounded 47 vehicles and motorcycles, referred six individuals to detention, two juveniles to the juvenile detention center for driving without licenses, and 11 residency violators to the competent authorities.
During the campaign, 205 serious violations were issued for deliberately obstructing traffic and dangerous overtaking, acts that contribute to road paralysis and congestion. A security source said officers used advanced monitoring devices to document violations through photographs and issue tickets via a digital application, noting that some vehicles were blocked due to parking in locations that obstructed traffic, ambulances, patients, people with special needs, and the elderly. The source added that new-generation cameras have strengthened enforcement efforts by detecting vehicles that unlawfully overtake at intersections, exits and traffic lights.
