LOS ANGELES, Aug 1: Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez are reportedly preparing to file for divorce following months of speculation and unsuccessful reconciliation attempts. Sources have confirmed to the Daily Mail that the couple’s divorce paperwork has been finalized but not yet submitted.

This development comes two months after In Touch reported that the relationship between the 51-year-old actor and the 55-year-old singer was deteriorating, with Affleck already moving out of their shared home. An insider told In Touch in May, “The writing is on the wall – it’s over. They’re headed for a divorce.”

Rumors of a split intensified earlier this year as the couple was notably absent from public events together. Affleck’s absence from the Met Gala on May 6, where Lopez served as a co-chair, sparked further speculation. A source at the time suggested that Affleck’s absence was indicative of their strained marriage, despite his excuse of filming commitments for The Accountant 2.

Affleck and Lopez have since been seen without their wedding bands, and their two-year wedding anniversary on July 16 was spent apart, with no public acknowledgment of the milestone. Additionally, Affleck missed Lopez’s 55th birthday celebration in the Hamptons on July 21.

The couple has listed their $68 million Beverly Hills home for sale, as confirmed by In Touch on July 11. Affleck has purchased a new residence—a $20.5 million mansion in Pacific Palisades—coinciding with Lopez’s birthday.

According to the Daily Mail, the couple plans to release a joint statement upon filing the divorce papers, expressing mutual respect and regret over the end of their marriage. “They finalized the divorce papers with her a month ago, but are waiting for the right time to drop them,” the source revealed.

Affleck and Lopez first became romantically involved in the early 2000s, with a wedding planned for 2003 that was ultimately called off. They separated in January 2004 but rekindled their relationship in 2021, leading to their marriage in July 2022.

Sources have indicated that despite their separation, both stars are focused on maintaining strong relationships with their respective children from previous marriages. Lopez’s twins, Emme and Max, and Affleck’s three children with ex-wife Jennifer Garner—Violet, Finn, and Samuel—have developed close bonds, and efforts are being made to ensure the divorce does not affect their relationships.

“Jennifer’s been putting on a brave face through it all,” an insider told In Touch. “She never expected to be spending her summer alone. This isn’t where she thought she’d be at this point in her life.”
