JINAN/HANGZHOU, March 3: Humanoid robots in east China’s Shandong Province are undergoing intensive training at a Jinan-based “robot school,” where they learn to perform real-world tasks such as carrying trays, folding clothes, and assisting in factories and homes. The training center, operated by Leju (Jinan) Humanoid Robot Data Training Center, features 11 categories of application scenarios, aiming to enable robots to perceive and adapt to complex environments like humans. Chinese robotics firms, including Unitree Robotics, have also showcased their robots at high-profile events such as the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, demonstrating advanced coordination, balance, and AI-powered adaptability. Experts note that such performances not only display technical prowess but also test capabilities directly relevant to real-world applications, from warehouse scheduling to home assistance.
The industry is rapidly moving from stage demonstrations to practical deployment, with humanoid robots being increasingly used in manufacturing, warehousing, shopping malls, schools, and chemical parks. Supported by strong government backing and strategic pilot programs, companies are expanding application scenarios, receiving commercial orders, and fostering collaboration to accelerate deployment. China’s robotics sector now includes over 140 manufacturers and 330 humanoid models, holding more than half of global industrial robot installations and recording thousands of patents. Experts say this combination of AI innovation, technical flexibility, and government support positions China as a global leader in humanoid robotics, with the sector expected to grow further in intelligent manufacturing, smart logistics, and service-oriented applications.
