MANILA, Philippines, Nov 5, (Agencies): A 66-year-old Australian national, identified as Peter David Maxwell, has been apprehended in Morong, Bataan, by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) for alleged abuse of his Filipina live-in partner and her child. The arrest, which took place on Oct 25, was carried out by the bureau's Intelligence Division and Fugitive Search Unit, following a mission order issued by Commissioner Norman Tansingco.
According to the BI, Maxwell's tourist visa had expired in 2018, and his passport was no longer valid, rendering him an undocumented and overstaying visitor, making him subject to deportation. Commissioner Tansingco emphasized that individuals who harm Filipino women and children should not be allowed to remain in the country and should be deported.
The incident stems from a complaint lodged by Maxwell's estranged live-in partner, who accused the Australian national of physical abuse towards her and her child. The complaint also alleges that Maxwell had been the subject of numerous complaints from their Morong neighborhood, where he was known for causing disturbances and making threats when under the influence of alcohol.
