Abu Dhabi Storms Club clinch championship title

Kuwait Stars settle for 2nd place, Jeddah Club take 3rd place

KUWAIT CITY, Dec 23: The UAE’s ‘Abu Dhabi Storms’ Club won the championship title of the first ice hockey championship for Gulf clubs which kicked off five days ago at Kuwait’s Ice Skating Rink with the participation of teams from Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Oman and the host country, Kuwait.

‘Abu Dhabi Storms’ won the title after defeating the host country’s ‘Kuwait Stars’ Club by 11 goals to 7 in the final match of the championship organized by Kuwait Winter Sports Club.

The ‘Abu Dhabi Storms’ came ahead in the first round of the match by (4-3), whereas in the second round it extended its lead to (8-4), and then in the final round it extended its lead to 11 goals while Kuwait settled for 7 goals after both teams displayed tremendous performance.

The third place was taken by Saudi’s ‘Jeddah’ Club after it defeated Oman’s Rockers by 11 goals to 3, whereas Bahrain’s ‘Bahraini’ Team came fourth, and Oman’s Rockers came fifth with no win in the tournament.

In a press statement when the tournament ended, Deputy Director General of the Public Authority for Sports Dr Saqr Al-Mullah disclosed the tournament featured young athletes from the Gulf region and that is considered an important gain for Kuwaiti sports.

Al-Mullah extended his appreciation and gratitude for the support and sponsorship of Information Minister and State Minister for Youth Affairs Muhammad Al-Jebri for the tournament.

He also congratulated the clubs and everyone who participated in one way or another to ensure the success of the tournament in all aspects.
