KUWAIT CITY, July 16: The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Kuwait Football Association, Abdullah Al-Shaheen, submitted his resignation from his position the day before yesterday. In response, the Federation’s Board of Directors appointed Vice Chairman Hayef Al-Mutairi as Chairman until an extraordinary general assembly can be convened to elect a new president.

In his statement, Al-Shaheen said, "We developed a strategy and action plan to advance and develop the football system. After more than two years of hard work and dedication, we fulfilled our duty to strive for the game's development. We diligently worked to implement our vision and strategy, despite facing numerous obstacles and challenges."

He continued, "Thanks to your valuable support and trust, the Federation has achieved significant milestones on administrative, technical, and financial fronts. We qualified for the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers after a 19-year absence and for the 2027 Asian Cup after a 12-year absence."

Al-Shaheen added, "Despite the smear campaigns and defamation I faced, I chose to take responsibility, working hard and diligently. I devoted my time, effort, and resources to serving my country. Together, we achieved tangible results in the development of the Kuwaiti football system."

He concluded, "I have decided to step down by Article (35, paragraph 10) of the Kuwait Football Association’s statute. I extend my gratitude to the vice presidents, Board members, all Federation employees, technical and administrative staff, national team players, and General Assembly members for their unwavering support. I wish continued success, progress, and prosperity for Kuwaiti football under the leadership of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, and His Highness the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah."

Following the approval of Hayef Al-Mutairi's appointment as Chairman, the Board of Directors expressed their gratitude to Abdullah Al-Shaheen for his efforts and contributions, which led to the Kuwaiti national team qualifying for the 2027 Asian Cup finals and the third round of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
