CAIRO, Egypt, Nov 27, (Agencies): The eighth edition of the Sharm El-Sheikh International Youth Theater Festival kicked off under the patronage of Dr. Nevin Al-Kilani, the Minister of Culture of the Arab Republic of Egypt. With the theme "Theatre for Humanity," the festival stands as a global platform for youth theatre, featuring participants from around the world engaged in the festival's international competition tracks: Melodrama Theater and Street Theater. A total of 17 theatrical performances from diverse countries are set to captivate audiences.
In a notable move, the festival administration introduced three official awards named after distinguished Kuwaiti playwrights across different generations. These awards include the Best Theatrical Show in the International Track, named after artist Muhammad Al-Mansour, the Best Theatrical Director in the International Track, named after director Abdullah Abdul Rasul, and the Best Acting Performance in Monodrama Theater Shows, named after artist Muhammad Al-Hamli. Kuwait's representation in the festival's eighth edition features the Arab Gulf Theater Troupe presenting the theatrical performance "Tahera."
