RIYADH, Nov 22: Kuwait wrapped up its participation in the 6th Islamic Solidarity Games—recently concluded in Riyadh—by securing the gold medal in the 110m hurdles through star athlete Yaacoub Al-Youha. His teammate Issa Al-Zankawi added silver in the discus throw, lifting Kuwait’s total medal tally at the event to seven.
Kuwait’s haul also included:
Gold in the under-75 kg kumite by Omar Al-Jassem
Gold in the under-60 kg kumite by Abdullah Shaban
Silver in kata by Sayed Mohammed Al-Mousawi
Bronze in the women’s under-55 kg kumite by Asrar Al-Jassem
Silver in the “Rocket League” esports competition earned by Youssef Al-Mutairi, Abdullah Al-Shammari, and Mohammed Al-Mutairi
The Kuwaiti contingent featured 65 male and female athletes competing across 11 sports: handball, athletics, karate, jiu-jitsu, fencing, show jumping, swimming, esports, weightlifting, camel racing, and duathlon.
Head of the Kuwaiti delegation and Director General of the Kuwait Olympic Committee, retired Lt. Gen. Mohammed Al-Khalfan, praised the athletes’ strong performances, describing Kuwait’s participation as successful on all fronts.
He said the athletes displayed commitment, discipline, and admirable spirit throughout the competition, noting that the seven medals reflect the hard work of federations, players, and technical staff and highlight the continued progress of the Kuwaiti sports regionally and within the Islamic world.
Al-Khalfan extended gratitude to Saudi Arabia for its exceptional organization and warm hospitality, calling the Games a model of excellence that strengthened unity and cooperation among athletes from across the Islamic community.
He affirmed that the Kuwait Olympic Committee will continue supporting national federations and athletes to enhance Kuwait’s presence in major continental and international events, adding that the achievements in Riyadh will be a strong motivator for future success.
He concluded by expressing pride in all those who contributed to Kuwait’s participation—administrators, coaches, and athletes—stressing that the ultimate goal remains raising Kuwait’s flag high in every sporting arena.
