Mother accused of throwing disabled son to crocodiles in a tragic incident in Karnataka, India.

INDIA, May 7: A harrowing incident has shocked residents of Uttara Kannada, a district in the western Indian state of Karnataka, as a mother stands accused of throwing her disabled six-year-old son into a river teeming with crocodiles, where he met a tragic fate.

Savitri Kumar, 26, reportedly engaged in a heated argument with her husband, Ravi Kumar, 27, over their disabled son. According to reports from the Times of India, Ravi allegedly pressured Savitri to “throw the child away,” questioning her decision to give birth to a child with a disability.

The confrontation escalated on Saturday evening when Savitri, distressed by the ongoing conflict, purportedly hurled her son into a waste canal that feeds into the Kali River, known for its crocodile population.

Neighbors, witnessing the distressing event, swiftly alerted the authorities. Despite immediate efforts by police divers to locate the boy amidst the darkness, their search proved futile. Tragically, on Sunday morning, the child’s lifeless body was discovered, bearing telltale signs of crocodile mauling, including severe injuries and the loss of a hand.

A post-mortem examination has been ordered to ascertain the precise cause of death, as investigators delve into the circumstances surrounding the heartbreaking incident.

The couple, who also have a two-year-old son, allegedly frequently quarreled over their older son’s speech impediment, indicating underlying tensions within the family dynamic.

Law enforcement officials have launched a comprehensive investigation, with a police officer describing the case as one of “murder.” Both the husband and wife have been apprehended and are facing legal repercussions as authorities seek justice for the tragic loss of the young boy’s life.
